A woman has been arrested following hospital gas systems reportedly tampered with at two metropolitan healthcare centers.
The Sutherland medical facility in the city's southern suburbs experienced disruption to medical gases on Tuesday morning, forcing staff to transition to portable oxygen and air as an emergency measure, as stated by medical authorities.
"The cause behind the disruption of gases appears to be intentional interference," authorities stated.
They further emphasized that "{To reportedly commit such acts is beyond serious. The potential for disastrous consequences."
NSW police said they received reports of "alleged vandalism at two hospitals in Caringbah." Sources indicate that the second location was a local private medical center.
Police alleged a 42-year-old woman gained access of a hospital on Kareena Road at around 12:20 AM on Tuesday and "cut both the water and gas mains, then turning on emergency water systems."
Investigators additionally claim that at approximately 1:30 AM, "the woman entered the grounds of a second medical facility on Kareena Road ... and reportedly deactivated the gas main."
The individual was apprehended in the Miranda area at about 4:00 AM on Tuesday for violating bail conditions, according to police.
Medical authorities confirmed that gas systems were returned to operation by hospital teams and local health district "within approximately two hours."
"Let me reassure the community patient care was not affected to patient care and that the facility has returned to operating as per normal," authorities stated.
